Emma Mulholland appreciation

The other night I dreamt that myself and Roger Federer were really good friends. We were having a much-needed catch-up and laughing and joking together. Then, as he was leaving wherever it was we were, I ran up to him and gave him the biggest hug one could ever give. Despite that dream, I really wanted Andy Murray to reach the final of the Aussie Open and, when he did, I couldn't have been happier/more impressed.

BUT NOVAK DJOKOVIC IS SUPER HUMAN and, although Murray began the match like he could easily be number one, it takes more than a challenge to beat Djokovic. Sigh.

Anyway, I thought now would be the perfect opportunity to once again express my adoration for the Australian designer Emma Mulholland. If you're an avid reader of my blog (thank you so much) then you would have read me rave about her previous two collections. The clothing's easily wearable and easy to style yet at the same time there's a distinctive quality to it that, at first glance, you know is an Emma Mulholland creation. It's also full of colour and I love colour and caps have also been included in the collections- caps which look really good.

Ok, I can't afford any of these things but if I could I know I would have to resist the urge to buy everything.

Spaced out

There may have been a sci-fi invasion this season but Australian designer Emma Mulholland has taken her Autumn Winter 2013 collection to the extreme. Think disco inferno meets ET meets Tutankhamen. The most random of combinations but in an odd, fun kind of way, it works. Back in June, I expressed my affections for the compellingly colourful, athletic but youthful delights she had offered us and thankfully those vibrant greens and turquoises are still present (just with a metallic finish or out-of-this-world surroundings)

Perhaps, it's fair to say that this offering is less wearable than the former (unless you are model Charlotte Free who, I believe, these clothes were made for) but the crop-tops and sweaters, the backpacks and the gooed-on zebra dress would form an appealing addition to my wardrobe. And perhaps the up-and-coming festive party season is an acceptable time to sport the shimmering platform-style shoes and matching pinafore dress...perhaps...

You know you're lacking imagination when all you can think of for a blog post title is Vaccines lyrics. Hopefully the following makes up for it.
This top began its life as a plain white t-shirt living with no excitement and a reputation of being ignored. That's no fun, which is why I took inspiration from Emma Mulholland and gave it an all over fashion fix.

Equipment needed:

> a  white t-shirt
> blue fabric dye
> screen printing kit (alternatively, you could do it by hand but screen printing ink is essential)
> mesh fabric for strips on the sleeves.

Difícil? I think not!

The young Australian designer, Emma Mulholland, is taking us deep into the desert where her latest spring summer collection lies. Or should I rather say runs and jumps and skips about. The everyday scenery her Aussie eyes are probably accustomed to (the turquoise and blues of the sea and sky, the yellow and oranges of the sun and sand) are intensified and made into biker jackets, quilted shorts, and exciting fiery patterns found on trousers, a rucksack, cap, and dungarees. 


And then there's the iguanas scurrying over tops, swimwear and shirt pockets (some of which are keeping active with a basketball in their reach). The collection is stylishly athletic, eye-catchingly fresh, and all in all pretty darn enticing.
