la camisa

Burberry Prorsum, Creatures of the Wind, Holly Fulton, Paul & Joe, Chanel
A shirt can tell a lot about a person. Given the variety of styles a shirt can come in, you will undoubtedly find the perfect one for you and a specific occasion. It can be the most simple yet effective way to change from day wear to evening wear. By exchanging your denim for lace, or checks for a glamorous metallic, you can unleash that ideal personality to fit your mood. A shirt can define an era. Ruffled and elegant, cheesy and bold, baggy and careless, the list can go on.

Now that fashion month has ended and style enthusiasts everywhere are reflecting on what to expect during a season that seems an eternity away, I thought I'd pick out some of my favourite shirts-an item which, as a whole, never goes away.

I was delighted when the sweet-wrapper metallics from the menswear collection made an appearance on the women at Burberry Prorsum. The moment I saw the green and blue shininess, pictured above, I imagined wearing it with a pair of leather shorts strolling through the city. Sigh.
Holly Fulton's LA inspired summer-wear is perfection. Sea blues and fun patterns make up the ever lively, Fulton-fueled clothing and I'm particular loving the blue rosy number with its preppy stripes across the chest.
And there are so many congenial pieces at Chanel that I just had to mention the collection in here somewhere.

As for street style, these were captured by the photographers over at Vogue HQ. Whether it's designer or vintage, or the trustworthy high street how do you like to wear your shirts?

midweek fun

source / source
Unfortunately I do not speak from experience but I imagine dashing from show to show during fashion month can get tiring, especially when you're constantly feeling the pressure to look your most stylish whilst surrounded by beautiful models and knowledgeable people within the fashion world. That's why incorporating character (literally) into an outfit can immediately lift those stressful spirits and make street style photographers and style observers smile.
I am particularly loving Cara Delevigne in head to toe Jeremy Scott (do you think she's a Simpsons fan?) and the House Of Holland t-shirt dress which, as Susie Bubble observed, is very reminiscent of Super Mario.

Feeling inspired, I pulled my Mickey Mouse tee (formally a way too big jumper brought from Beyond Retro) out of my wardrobe and 'posed' for a cheesy pic.

Giorgio Armani SS13

source
I am immensely smitten by all things spacey when it comes to art, especially in fashion. Christoper Kane's 2011 resort collection? my favourite collection ever. Yet, in this moment in time, galaxy prints are beginning to lose their sense of captivation as they are constantly being spread on leggings and crop-tops that unfortunately all look the same. But, behold! Giorgio Armani has saved my doubts and exquisitely put my affections back in place. Kaleidoscope (the name of Armani's spring summer collection) is magical to the eye. It has a delicate beauty to it as constellations illuminate on midnight silks and navy blue's glisten admiringly. Fabrics are kept light and dreamy with draped tunics, flowing skirts, sheer shawls and pyjama suits and the futuristic wired embellishments make it all the more aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Star gazing has never been so exciting.

MBFW New York: Lacoste

It has finally happened; Andy Murray has won his first Grand Slam and he could not deserve it more.
I am aware this post is slightly late in the making but, hey, better let than never! After the summer he has experienced (final of Wimbledon + Olympic gold + capturing the nation's heart along the way) Flushing Meadows seemed the most ideal venue for him to reach him dream of holding the trophy at a major tennis event. It's like he's now finished the summer of 2012 in a dreamy, fairytale way and a new chapter can begin.
His play has progressed,
his power has increased,
his maturity on court has grown,
his mindset is more focused,
he has destroyed the tedious barrier that was separating him from the most unbeatable players,
he is a champion

It was a pleasure being curled up in bed watching the action-packed battle of determination, AKA The US Open final. Admittedly I fell asleep after the 2nd set (damn the five hour time difference) but, thanks to the excitable cheers of the crowd, I awoke when Andy was 3-0 up in the fifth and final set (therefore missing the segment of the match where Djokovic was playing the better tennis) and maintained firmly awake, eagerly hoping for the beautiful ending that soon arrived.

While that took place in one area of New York, at fashion week, Lacoste had showcased another tennis extravaganza- this time in the form of clothes.

Pristine whites and sporty shapes decorated with tennis rackets, balls, courts and even umpire chairs make the perfect outfit for, say, spectating at Wimbledon (rain coats included for you when you need one) It all sounds very over-the-top and cheesy but I think Felipe Oliveira has done a wonderful job in making stripes and polka dots look innovative and exciting with Lacoste's athletic aesthetics kept securely intact.

MBFW Madrid: María Escoté

Cutsie meets rock 'n' roll edginess- now that's my kind of combo.  It's pleasing when designers produce a whole collection that you can see fitting perfectly into your day-to-day life. (Isabel Marant and Carven are great at doing this, as I could happily live in just their clothes) For spring summer 2013, María Escoté has supplied us with leopards, dog bones, outraged monkeys, and sharp teeth-like patterns exploding with casual energy, all of which can each be worn for various occasions.
Wear the vests with denim shorts for an effortlessly cool laid back look, throwing on a zigzagged long sleeved top or shimmering sweater if you start to feel a bit nippy. The biker jackets are made for city outfits, paired with leather trousers or (due the animal references and friendly flowers) a pretty white dress. Summer evenings eating meals by the sea would be ideal for the vivid orange maxi skirt, and do you want to go partying but don't want to spend time looking glamorous yet still seem like you've made an attractive effort? the glossy pastel coloured skirts and two outfits shown below would most certainly be my choice of night time wear.

MBFW Madrid: Francis Montesinos

Ah the excitement of fashion week. For me, it is far from exciting as I become firmly fixed to my laptop, perusing through all the latest shows, pretending I am sat in the front row amongst all the action. But that moment when you discover a collection that stands out for its perfection or artistic creativity is exciting.

Francis Montesinos has entitled this summertime spectacle 'Spanish Garden', a name which is a complete representation of what is included. My first impression was this is a garden party. A garden party I want to be a part of. The merging of yellows and blues form the sky and the idyllic weather; the floral embellishments, the 3D flowers, the head-wear blossoming with colour create the picturesque setting- as do the moss covered handbags, making it all the more real; the dresses and skirts, which can be found in presentable white lace, flow playfully, producing the guests in their ideal uniform for looking the part at the social gathering. Like every event in life, it has to come to an end and the dark elegant black is the evening that follows, the twinkling illustrating the starry sky. And the silk trousers? the moon, of course, shining in the clearness above.
